Founded in 1999, Okan University is one of Turkey's youngest and most dynamic universities, recognized internationally and offers 43 Undergraduate, 17 Graduate and 1 Ph.D. Program. The university is located in Istanbul, the only city in the world that connects two continents, Asia and Europe together. Throughout history, it has served as a capital of several civilizations such as the Roman Empire, Byzantine Empire and Ottoman Empire. Today, Istanbul is regarded as one of the leading cultural and financial centers of the world. Istanbul is also announced by the European Union as the 2010 European Capital of Culture. With her natural beauties and rich history, Istanbul offers our students various opportunities of education, adventure and travelling. Besides the main campus in the Asian part of Istanbul which distinguishes itself with the modern faculty buildings, dormitories and social facilities, the university has three other campuses in the central points of the city. In the 2009-2010 academic year, Okan University has more than 5000 students. Okan University pursues and contributes to the development of knowledge both nationally and internationally, and has a distinguished place amongst world universities with its high quality education and accredited programmes. With the major goal of becoming closely integrated into business life, the university has developed a package program for its students to prepare them for business life before graduation. True to its motto, "The University Closest to Business Life," Okan University effectively combines theory and practice by employing an academic staff who are experts in their own fields, adopting a contemporary approach to education, and focussing upon practice-oriented studies which prepare the students for business life, starting from students’ very first year of study.

Okan University gives particular importance to its international relations. The specialized, practice-oriented education that Okan provides, necessitates cooperation with international universities that focus on the same characteristics. Within this perspective, Okan University has established cooperation and exchange protocols with universities around the world. The university actively participates in the Erasmus Program through student and teaching staff exchanges. In addition to several Bilateral Agreements with European Universities and being conscious of the importance of establishing relations with other universities around the world, Okan University has signed various protocols with international universities such as Murray State University in Kentucky, USA, Siegen University in Germany, Beijing Culture and Languages University in China and Pushkin State Russian Language Institute in Russia. Among those international agreements, it has been successfully progressing 3+1 program with American universities for a few years.

Social and cultural activities are considered as integral parts of education at Okan University. Seminars, panel discussions, conferences and symposia are organized at the university with the participation of eminent scholars and well-known personalities. Additionally, students are constantly encouraged to take part in social, cultural and sportive activities through about 50 student clubs. Regular trips to historical and touristic regions are organized by the tourism club. Spring festival has become a centre of interest not only for Okan students but also for students of other universities. The sports compound inside the campus includes a semi-Olympic swimming pool, an indoor basketball court, a fitness centre equipped with state-of-art equipments and special areas for martial arts. There are also outdoor basketball and tennis courts and a football pitch.

Okan University offers accommodation for 1000 students in four fully equipped dormitories inside of its main campus. Students can choose to stay in single, double or quatriple rooms. There are study rooms, TV rooms and twenty-four-hour medical centre. Restaurants and cafeterias serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Laundry and cleaning services are also provided.
